Professional Doorperson Training (PDT)
Basic Standards Training (BST) certification is mandatory for anyone who would like to become a licensed security guard / doorperson within BC. The Canadian General Standards Board sets the course guidelines for basic security guard duties. The JIBC regulates standards and the examinations for BST, the Ministry of Attorney General administers and issues employee security patrol licenses throughout BC. The NEW sectors of the security industry will be required to obtain licensing to operate in BC by the following dates:
- Must be a minimum of 19 years of age
- Must be fluent in both written and spoken English (pass an entrance Language test)
- Must have a clean criminal record (conduct a criminal record search/fingerprinting)
- Must complete mandatory BST certification (see program AND cost breakdown below)
In order to become a Licensed SECURITY GUARD / DOORPERSON / IN-HOUSE SECURITY PROFESSIONAL in BC one must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Armoured Car guards - December 1, 2008
- In-House security guards / private investigators / loss prevention - September 1, 2009
- Door staff at licensed liquor establishments - November 1, 2009
BST is theory-based and skills-based (40 hours of instruction) designed to provide adequate training to those that wish to be security professionals. Upon course completion our students will be trained to evaluate, diffuse and control a variety of potentially confrontational encounters, use appropriate legally permitted physical control tactics, and properly document incidents (including operational reports, incident reports, and new USE OF FORCE report) in order to avoid criminal and civil liability.

1. Fingerprinting (criminal record check) - does not qualify if charged or convicted of any criminal offence and two passport photos. | $50 (Approx) |

4. Optional Level 1 Occupational First Aid Certificate (full day course) | $85 |
5. Optional AST - Advanced Security Training Course (includes books, examination fee, 24 hours of tactical training , use of force, use of restraints i.e. handcuffs, tac comm. etc.). Take both BST/AST receive $50 discount. | $350 |
6. Optional PDT - Professional Doorperson Training when working within licensed liquor establishments, diffusing hostile situations, premise liability, civil & criminal liability issues. | $225 |
